Last clock wind
After 131 years, the church clock was wound manually, for the very last time, today.
A dedicated team of winders have wound the mechanism, twice weekly, but as part of the current restoration and refurbishment work being undertaken, electrification of the clock will afford them a well-earned rest.
The clock faces will soon be removed for cleaning, refurbishment and repainting/gilding but will be back as soon as repointing of the tower is complete.
The main picture shows members of the current clock-winding team and the inset picture, our youngest and oldest winders giving the last ceremonial wind.
